Scott oversees the operations of a growing multi-state news and information company that provides subscribers unmatched, reliable content in a user-friendly way. He has done significant work in transitioning the century-old company to the digital age, helping Gongwer advance during a period when many news organizations have struggled to adapt to digital innovations. Scott is responsible for overall management of the company, including long-term strategy, technology development, subscriber relations, client development and more. A graduate of Ohio State University's School of Journalism and a former member of the Ohio Air National Guard's 121st Tactical Fighter Wing, Kent became a Gongwer staff writer in 1998. Promoted to the editor position in 2003, he is responsible for assignments, coverage and the content of the Gongwer Ohio Report. He covers a variety of subjects and venues, including the state budget process and tax-related issues. He joined the Gongwer staff in 2015 after working five years for the Journal & Courier in Lafayette, Indiana. While at that paper, he earned several awards covering social policy issues and K-12 education. He earned his degree from Purdue University. Tom Gallick joined Gongwer in 2018 after working five years for This Week Community News, where he covered local government and other key issues in Delaware County. He also gained experience working as a copy editor at Gannett and spent three years as a staff writer at The Record-Courier in Portage County. Krista joined the Gongwer staff in 2022, having worked most recently as a community reporter at the Akron Beacon Journal, where she covered school, local politics and more. A winner of several journalism awards, she also held newspaper reporting jobs at the Record-Courier in Kent and Chagrin Valley Publishing. A graduate of Boston University, Krista covered the Massachusetts Statehouse through BU’s State House program.
A 20-plus year veteran of Gongwer, Chris manages all of the company’s information technology operations, including service enhancements, technological developments, site security and more. Miranda joined the Gongwer team in 2021, taking on primary responsibility for Gongwer's legislative resources and social media footprint. A graduate of Franklin University, she logged several years of experience with the Legislative Service Commission and previously held sales and customer support roles. Charles Scott Gongwer was a Mansfield, Ohio, native who had worked as a political reporter for The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer and Cleveland Press before moving to Columbus, Ohio, as a Statehouse correspondent for several newspapers.
In 1906, he decided to form his own company. He saw a need for a detailed, timely, and, above all, independent account of state government activity.
Mr. Gongwer responded to that need with what was then called the Gongwer Legislative Information Service.
He could not have known the company that initially relied on little more than a typewriter and postage stamps would become the nation's longest-operating news service focused solely on state government and political news.
While the equipment that Mr. Gongwer used have long since been replaced by computers, websites, mobile devices and databases, what remains unchanged at Gongwer News Service is the founder's commitment to providing readers with the most comprehensive, accurate, timely, and balanced coverage available.
